About the Library: How to Use the Library

Access to Resources

Instructions for activating your OpenAthens account.

Taylor Health Sciences Library has migrated to OpenAthens, an authentication service that improves security and access control of library resources, reduces service interruptions, integrates with the institutions' single sign-on (SSO) services, and provides usage data.

Once we create an OpenAthens account, an activation email is sent from OpenAthens. Please check your spam folder if you don't see it in your inbox. Follow the instructions in the email to create your password. You can log in with your email address or your OpenAthens username.

Once you have finished setting up your account, you can access the resources on the library’s website: https://library.achehealth.edu/

There is no login portal to the library website. Instead, you are prompted for access when you select a resource.

For example, when you are on this page: https://library.achehealth.edu/program-do3-4 and select CURRENT Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, you will see this prompt:

If you are a Resident and/or Affiliated user then choose “Residents and Affiliated Users”, and sign on.

If you are an ACHE Student, Faculty, and/or Staff user then choose "Students, Faculty, Staff", then you will be prompted to sign on using your ACHE credentials.

Once you have completed this step, then you can access UpToDate. See the instructions below.

If you have any questions or would like a demo via video call, we’re happy to help.

Here are the ways you can contact us: https://library.achehealth.edu/contact-your-librarians

Interlibrary Loan

If the library does not have the article or book you need, we may get it for you. This is called interlibrary loan, or ILL. We borrow or receive the resource from another library and provide it to you.

  • Articles - usually get in 24-72 hours
  • Book Chapters - get in 2-7 days. Please include start and end page numbers!
  • Books - usually can get print books in 7-10 days. Please let us know if you are located outside the Fort Smith metro area so we can know where to ship your book. We do not ship interlibrary loan books internationally. Libraries rarely able to get ebooks via interlibrary loan because of publisher licensing issues. As an alternative, we may considered purchasing an ebook if it fits our collection development policy.

Liaison Program

Liaison Librarians work with the students, faculty, and staff of their liaison programs to support learning, teaching and research.
