Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Guide: LGBTQIA+
Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to provide resources related to LGBTQ+ and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
What does LGBTQIA mean?
It is the acronym to stand for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (questioning), intersex, asexual (agender) (aromantic). You may see variations of the acronym like LGTBQ, or LGBTQA+.

- ACOFP Minority/LBGTQI+ Resources The ACOFP has developed a Minority/LGBTQI+ Health and Wellness Committee with the mission to eliminate health disparities with the emphasis on minority and LGBTQI+ populations by providing education, resources and awareness to colleagues and patients. "Our goals are as diverse as we are - our hope is to address the health care needs of people, not of a category of people but the needs of an individual."
- AQuALib The Arkansas Queer Alliance for Libraries (AQuALib), an Arkansas Library Association community of interest, supports library workers and libraries in making our spaces, collections, and programs inclusive and welcoming to all. This group is open to members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as allies, and aims to create resources to assist libraries facing challenges or community controversy due to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ resources and programming.

- Human Rights Campaign The Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where every member of the LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear, and with equality under the law. We empower our 3 million members and supporters to mobilize against attacks on the most marginalized people in our community.
- Teaching Beyond the Classroom In recent years, students on campuses across the country have become increasingly vocal in resisting binary thinking with respect to gender identity and expression. In an editorial that appeared in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Schmalz (2015) interviewed a dozen Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer plus (LGBTQ+) students, many of whom identified as gender fluid, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, transgender, and/or non-binary, and found these students experience a great amount of anxiety and frustration. Several students expressed fear of instructors and staff misgendering them or committing other microaggressions. They described their anxiety about being “outed” by professors in their classes and being forced to “come out” every semester when they must talk with faculty about their names or pronouns. One student shared, “Every day it’s scary to just be in class, not knowing what people are going to say” (Schmalz 2015).
